The Engineering Manager Platform Engineering is responsible for leading and developing other leaders whose teams build technology solutions providing platforms for Heineken’s global digital commerce. These products provide common solutions for other engineering teams in terms of Order Capture, Integration, Microsoft Dynamics CE and F&O, CIAM, Privacy and Consent. This role combines technical expertise with deep leadership skills, requiring the ability to mentor other leaders, guide strategic engineering decisions, and ensure timely delivery of projects while fostering a collaborative and innovative team culture. The Engineering Manager serves as a bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, translating strategic goals into executable plans while maintaining engineering excellence and team health.
Your responsibilities would include:
- Team Leadership and Development: recruiting, onboarding, and retaining top engineering talent while providing regular coaching, feedback, and career development opportunities. Result: A high-performing, engaged team with clear growth paths and low attrition rates
- Project Planning and Delivery: defining project scope, timelines, and resource allocation while managing dependencies and risks to ensure successful delivery. Result: Consistent on-time delivery of projects that meet quality standards and business requirements
- Technical Direction and Architecture: guiding technical decisions, code review practices, and architectural choices to maintain system quality and scalability. Result: Robust, maintainable codebases and technical solutions aligned with long-term platform goals.
- Performance Management: conducting regular one-on-ones, setting clear performance expectations, providing constructive feedback, and managing performance improvement plans when necessary. Result: Team members understand expectations, receive timely support, and consistently meet or exceed performance standards
- Cross-functional Collaboration: partnering with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define requirements, prioritise work, and align on delivery timelines. Result: Strong working relationships that enable smooth project execution and shared ownership of outcomes
- Process Improvement: evaluating and refining team processes, development workflows, and tooling to increase efficiency and reduce friction. Result: Streamlined development practices that improve velocity, code quality, and team satisfaction
- Technical Roadmap Planning: contributing to long-term technical strategy, identifying technical debt, and balancing feature development with infrastructure investments. Result: A sustainable technical foundation that supports current needs while positioning the team for future growth
- Incident Response and System Reliability: establishing on-call procedures, leading incident response efforts, and driving post-mortem processes to prevent future issues. Result: Improved system stability, reduced downtime, and a culture of continuous learning from failures
- Budget and Resource Management: managing team budget, vendor relationships, and resource allocation to maximise efficiency and ROI. Result: Optimised use of resources and tools that support team productivity within budgetary constraints
- Culture and Team Health: fostering an inclusive, psychologically safe environment where team members feel valued, heard, and empowered to do their best work. Result: A collaborative team culture with high morale, open communication, and a strong sense of belonging.
You are a good candidate if you have:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, or other Engineering Discipline
- 10+ years in software engineering roles, with a minimum of 5+ years of demonstrated leadership ability
deep expertise in Cloud Native architecture - communication skill including the ability to navigate high and low context cultures
- storytelling ability, make something technical interesting and engaging for non-technical audiences
- security expertise, knowledge of OWASP exploits
- experience in building a culture of DevOps across a traditional organisation
- excellent English - both spoken and written
- resilient, adaptable, well-organised mindset who can handle shifting priorities.
