As a Data Engineer you are part of our Digital & Technology (D&T) team. Your main focus is the delivery, industrialization, deployment and functional maintenance of data platforms and data pipelines. You work with data platforms in accordance with architectural and technical guidelines from global D&T, always balancing the local OpCo demands versus the global guidelines and standardized tooling.
In this role, you are also part of a wider HEINEKEN data engineering community. You can actively tap into the knowledge and experience of colleagues across other HEINEKEN Operating Companies (OpCos) and global teams. Within the group, collaboration and mutual support are strongly encouraged, and colleagues are always willing to share best practices and provide advice when facing data and technology challenges.
Your goal is to enables Alken-Maes to become data-driven. The work you deliver is a driver for knowledge and insights in Alken-Maes. You are responsible for acquiring, organizing and delivering complex data, and making it reliably and securely accessible to key data players, such as Business Analysts, Data Scientists and strategic projects with a large data component. You ensure sustainable and secure integration of data flows by building and maintaining data pipelines and platforms that enables Alken-Maes to progress on our data-driven ambitions.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- You design, build and evolve scalable, secure and reliable data platforms and data pipelines in line with HEINEKEN global D&T architecture and standards.
- You take end-to-end responsibility for existing data platforms, including their roadmap, stability, performance, monitoring and continuous improvement.
- You lead the technical design and implementation of complex data engineering solutions, balancing local OpCo needs with global standardized tooling.
- You ensure high data quality, robustness and security across all data flows, applying best practices for data modelling, lifecycle management and governance.
- You contribute to architectural decision‑making, defining standards, patterns and future-facing improvements for the data platform landscape.
- You support incident resolution and complex problem solving when advanced technical expertise or strong stakeholder interaction is required.
- You are involved in projects that improve or enhance existing solutions and projects that create new solutions, setting the direction and design for the data platform aspect and leading the implementation where needed.
- You document architectures, data flows and technical solutions to ensure knowledge sharing and long-term maintainability.
YOUR PROFILE
- You hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence, Physics or related technical discipline.
- You have at least 5 years relevant working experience in a data driven environment.
- You are proficient in SQL and you have general knowledge of Agile SCRUM and DEVOPS.
- You have hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure, and are familiar with enterprise data platform concepts and tooling.
- You are able to write clean, maintainable code and apply appropriate testing strategies to ensure stability and quality of data solutions.
- Analytical mind that is able to assess current solutions and processes and suggest incremental improvements.
- You combine conceptual thinking with pragmatism and diplomacy, leading to strong stakeholder management for the data platforms. You are able to explain outcomes and impact to a non-technical audience.
- You are comfortable operating on a tactical and strategic level, and can clearly explain technical outcomes and impact to non-technical stakeholders.
- You are able to create complex data pipelines without guidance and also maintain existing data pipelines.
- Design database schemas (preserve data quality, modelling and manipulation).
- You are a collaborative, hands-on professional with a continuous improvement mindset.
- You are fluent in English; knowledge of French and/or Dutch is considered a strong asset.
