Data Governance Expert – Heineken Netherlands Commerce

As Data Governance Expert you are connecting the dots in our digital world. Connecting Data to Processes, Owners, Technologies and Policies. You enable business users to manage their own data and information products in a way that they can find, understand and trust data and insights throughout HEINEKEN Netherlands Commerce. It is not only about internal data and reports but also about Machine Learning models build by our Advanced Analytics team and 3rd party data sources and models. You will work closely together with the Data Governance Expert from HEINEKEN Netherlands Supply (separate entity) and our Global Data Governance team. We believe in the ‘just enough governance’ principle and only apply data governance there where it adds business value.


What are your responsibilities as Data Governance Expert?

Your goal in this position is to maintain and expand the governance, guiding principles, meta models, report-/data catalogs and business glossaries. Where needed you also align with Heineken’s Global Standards and Industry Standards like GS1. You are the key user of our Data Governance solution (Collibra) and you help other people using it. Although we have a great tool, managing and enable change towards a data driven culture is the key success factor. Your main responsibilities are:


  • Further roll-out of Data Governance within Heineken Netherlands Commerce
  • Promote Data Governance and ways of working throughout the company 
  • Enable key business users to describe reports (lineage) and definitions
  • Support our Data Scientists with describing machine learning models which is part of Industrialization definition of these models  
  • Connecting Data to our processes (based on our Enterprise Process Model), people, technologies and policies
  • Help business users to comply to standards
  • Implement Data Quality monitoring
  • Implement data ownership
  • Maintain and manage report and data catalog
  • Train end users for Collibra
  • Coordinate Data Governance processes (issue management, change management, policies)


As Data Governance Expert you will be based in Zoeterwoude and from medio 2020 you will be based in Leiden (next to central station). You will be reporting to the manager of the Data & Analytics Office.


Your working environment

Within Heineken Netherlands Commerce you will work within the Data & Analytics Office. The Data & Analytics Office consists of 4 teams: Data Governance, Master Data Management, Business Intelligence and Advanced Analytics. Our purpose is to “Enable employees and their customers to make informed decisions based on easy accessible and trusted insights”.


Our message is that you have to be in control of your data if you want to accelerate with Advanced Analytics and digital innovation.


Are you the Data Governance Expert we are looking for?
To be successful we’re looking for individuals who are keen on laying the right data foundation and make this foundation work. Also the ideal candidate has:


  • A Master Degree in Information Management, Business Administration, Business Information or equivalent;
  • At least 3-7 years’ work experience in Data Governance, Data Management, information management or equivalent;
  • Relevant knowledge of (industry) standards like GS1
  • Relevant knowledge of the Data Management Body of Knowledge, CMMI, architectural frameworks, reference models is a must;
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English;
  • Strong persuasion skills; key skill is that you can communicate with and enthuse stakeholders on different levels;
  • Please kindly note that you need to have an EU Working Permit (Orientation Year Visa not included) in order to proceed for this position.
