Your job will be to develop and implement strategies for circular economy in the ‘barley to bar’ supply chain.


Your contribution as Circularity Lead is to drive the development of the E2E supply chain circularity agenda.


Your work field

The Sustainable Production Department is part of Global Production and aimed at transforming Heineken into being the greenest brewer in the world. The department develops sustainability strategies for Carbon Neutrality, Healthy Watersheds (water efficiency, water circularity and water stewardship), Circular Economy and Agriculture, based on the strategic objectives of the company and implements them worldwide in all of our 160+ production sites. The department leads the activities for all breweries and maltings (scope 1+2) and develops and supports sustainability initiatives in scope 3 (agriculture, malting, packaging materials and cooling) to go to a fully circular ‘barley to bar’ Supply Chain.


In order to be successful in this position you’re working on:

  • Work together with Corporate Affairs, Heineken Global Procurement and other functions in Global Production.
  • Participate in developing the strategy and roadmap for overall circularity program of HEINEKEN
  • Support OpCo’s worldwide to eliminate all waste to landfill before 2025.
  • Co-Drive with the regional teams the AMEE, APAC and Caribbean Zero Waste Programs.
  • Actively support the CoE Circularity (Waste & co-products).
  • Increase revenues from co-products & waste by analysing existing uses and developing alternatives.
  • Play an active role in the protein transition and develop innovative solutions for BSG and surplus yeast.
  • Contribute to data verification and content published in Annual Report on Zero Waste and Circular Economy.
  • Compare different packtypes on environmental footprint and develop and promote reduction strategies.
  • Co-lead development and roll-out plastics strategy (consumer facing and non-consumer facing).
  • Co-lead development and roll-out returnable packaging strategy (business cases, investments, transition programs).


Your working environment

You will report to the Director Sustainable Production. Your position is based in The Base, Schiphol, the Netherlands.


Your profile

  • MSc, preferably in engineering or food science & technology
  • 10+ years of work experience in sustainable development/environmental engineering/circular economy
  • Specialized (and broad) knowledge of different environmental sustainability topics
  • Operational sustainability experience in beverage production or FMCG industry
  • Excellent ability to connect with people at all levels across multiple functions and geographies.
  • Solid analytical and organisational skills, curious mindset and drive to lead sustainability agenda.
  • Ability to set up program by interdisciplinary cooperation.
