Job description

  • Function/ Region: Corporate Affairs / Sustainability Development
  • (Sub)department: Carbon Team
  • Job purpose: The Carbon policy manager drives the adoption of robust sustainability policy related to Climate and Carbon. In its role the policy manager will have to develop policies on sustainability topics that attracts external scrutiny such as Carbon offsets, Bioenergy position, Energy Certificates
  • Reports to: Global Sustainable Development Manager – Net Zero Carbon - Strategy Lead
  • Direct Reports: None

Roles & responsibilities

  1. Design and implement sustainability policies related to Climate and carbon topics such as carbon credits, energy certificates, net zero certification, sustainable agriculture
  2. Ensure Executive Board and Supervisory Board sign off on critical topics
  3. Develop with delivery functions a compliance program to ensure policies and standards are embedded in the organization
  4. Develop internal knowledge and design training plan for Operating companies to get familiar with

Heineken position on critical sustainability topics

  1. Act as a guardian of the policies and be able to direct clearly the organization in sensitive sustainability topics
  2. Engage external platforms such as RE100, Re-Source, RSB, Race to Zero, BIER, The Climate Pledge to advocate for HEINEKEN position and remains updated with the latest policy development
  3. Develop & implement financial models related to Carbon pricing and work closely with Global Finance to predict future risks and opportunities
  4. Support Carbon PMO and Strategy lead at developing Carbon Dashboard
  5. Support brand agenda and green claims with Global legal and Global Commerce


Experience & profile (what & how)


  • Education: University level, sustainability knowledge is required
  • Work experience: 10-12 years.
  • Required work experience in field of expertise: demonstrated experience (10+ years) in sustainability fields, knowledge related to energy and/or agriculture and/or sustainable packaging
  • Other fields of expertise: policy development, external advocacy, stakeholder engagement
  • Functional skills: change management, program management skills, advanced sustainability and environmental knowledge, campaign management and brand PR
  • Languages: English; proficient command of other languages highly valued (Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, French, etc.)
