The internship
As part of the Global Plastic Packaging Team, you will have the unique opportunity to lead a global benchmark initiative to identify opportunities to reduce plastic and drive cost worldwide. Additionally, you will collaborate and play a key role in shaping the sourcing strategy for PET bottles and PSL labels globally.
This internship focuses on giving you great understanding of core purchasing skills and tools, learning from a best-in-class organization and making a tangible contribution towards Heineken’s sustainability and purchasing goals.
The internship is based in Amsterdam and available asap for the duration of 6 months, with possibility to extend to 12 months.
Please note that all interns must be enrolled at a university for the entire duration of the internship. You will need to provide a proof of enrolment with your application. Applications without this will not be considered.
Your responsibilities
Based on your profile, your responsibilities will focus on one of the following areas:
- Leading internal and external benchmark initiative worldwide, collaborating with suppliers and local purchasing teams to identify opportunities to optimize plastic packaging, mainly on PET bottles, closures and Pressure sensitive labels.
- Supporting the development and implementation of the Global Sourcing Strategy for plastics, aiming to achieve maximum cost optimization and enabling HEINEKEN’s sustainability goals.
- Developing advanced cost models for creating transparency on all parts of the value chain
- Contributing in the development of the new Packaging Academy

The department
As an intern in the Global Procurement Packaging Plastics Teams, you will be surrounded by a driven team of procurement managers who work on creating value for customers with cost, sustainability & innovation as key criteria’s. Challenging market environments help us think outside the box and bring ideas to life by collaborating with our suppliers and stake holders.
The terms of employment
- The internship is fulltime (in consultation also 4 days a week possible)
- The duration of the internship is 5 or 6 months but can be extend to 1 year (in consultation with your internship supervisor)
- It is a practice-oriented internship
- You will be based in Amsterdam
- You will receive an internship fee of €500 (wo & hbo) based on fulltime
- You will enjoy 2 vacation days per month (based on fulltime)
- If you do not have a student OV product, your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed
The start of your internship
Together with a diverse group of interns from different departments you will start your internship at HEINEKEN. Together you will be introduced to the organization. Furthermore, you can organize fun activities with your fellow interns.

- You are passionate about packaging
- You’re good with excel & analyzing data (please share your past experiences)
- Excellent presentation skills, high assertiveness.
- Ability to engage with multiple stake holders across different functions and work independently
- You have an open mindset and are comfortable working with people from different cultures and backgrounds

- Preferred background of Engineering or Management
- Passionate about working independently & taking ownership of projects
- Excellent communication skills
Conditions of HEINEKEN
- You are enrolled at an educational institution.
- In the case of non-EU nationality, you must be registered as an intern with a Dutch educational institution.
- In case of EU nationality, you may also be registered as an intern at educational institutions outside the EU.
- Physical presence at the location of your internship. We believe that you learn most when you can work directly with your colleagues. It is therefore not possible to work completely remote and HEINEKEN does not facilitate housing.
