Title:  Senior Shift Technician

 Purpose of the job

Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of any equipment malfunctions, in order to ensure efficient and effective achievement of the packaging objectives on productivity, cost, quality, safety and morale.


These are some of the KRAs:

Operations: Supporting efficient operation of the packaging equipment in order to achieve packaging targets.

  • Check equipment availability in preparation for start up
  • Assist operations in set up and adjustments on equipment
  • Assist on vertical production start up
  • Prepare and perform shift handovers end of a shift
  • Participate in shift meetings,
  • Give feedback on equipment performance
    Maintenance : perform maintenance on packaging equipment
  • To solve, report and analyse malfunctions and breakdowns under his responsibility within the Mechanical, Electrical & Automation domain.
  • Resolve unplanned production stoppages effectively and as quick as possible within the Mechanical, Electrical and Automation domain.
  • Review and take action to immediately optimize machine and performance during production.
  • Train, coach and support operators and Technicians in Operation , maintenance and troubleshooting within the Mechanical, Electrical and Automation domain.
  • To submit improvement proposals or to make modifications according to the modifications procedure.
  • Update standard operational procedures and SMED lists where required.
  • Ensure production and following shifts are informed properly about potential production disturbances and technical issues.
  • List Technical issues which require resolve outside the shift of the shift technician.
  • Knowledge of PLC (Siemens) and Drives
  • Reading and Interpretation of Machine Drawings
  • Reading and Interpretation of Process Layout 
  • Participate in problem solving and continuous improvement initiatives in the plant in line with our TPM agenda.
    Safety, Health and Environmental : Compliance to the SHE standards requirements in order to ensure safe operation of the production process;
  • Report unsafe conditions and accidents on the SHE representations.
  • Follow safe work procedures’ including use of correct PPE

Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act


  Trade tested N6 or National Diploma (Automation, Electrical and Mechanical or relevant qualification. Minimum 5 years work experience in the FMCG or beverage-manufacturing environment is essential.


The successful candidate should:

  • Must be able to work well in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Able to work under pressure and organised.
  • Have good communications skills.
