Applications are invited to apply for the above-mentioned position to be based in Sedibeng. The successful candidate will report to the Plant Manager.

1. Purpose of the Job

The main purpose of the job is to manage, monitor and control all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental systems in order for the Company to comply and exceed legislative and regulatory requirements, as well as to comply with international standards. In addition to assist and advise management and development of the Company’s health, safety, and environmental strategies and will formulate and enforce policies and plans accordingly. 

The purpose of the Job is also to drive the companies Sustainability agenda in line with the BaBW requirements.

2. Key performance areas

Strategic planning:

• Draw up short/medium/long term SHE strategic plan with objectives and key performance areas and indicators.
• Implementation and monitoring of above plan.
• Ensure that SHE targets are met.

Emergency coordinating/investigations:

• Act as emergency coordinator.
• Follow procedures as per policies.
• Liaise with Management / emergency services during emergencies.
• Report and follow up on emergencies.

Manage effectiveness / performance of the SHE system:

• Maintain the SHE systems (ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
• Monitor the system and follow up on non-conformances with various department heads.
• Monitor action plans for improvements.
• Ensure 2 yearly re-certification and yearly surveillance audits are maintained.

Procedures and work instructions:

• Give guidance and professional advice to SHE controllers and department heads in developing SHE procedures/instruction.
• Review procedures/instructions periodically.
• Identify need for procedures and instructions.
• Align policies/procedures with corporate policies/procedures.

Risk assessments:

• Conduct periodic SHE risk assessments and aspects and impacts studies.
• Identify priorities.
• Draw up preventative action plans.

Manage & Control SHE Budget:                     

• Compile annual budget.
• Manage expenses.
• Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability:
• Ensure the department operates within company SHE standards and OHS Act, through continued education and training and obtaining the co-operation and commitment of all staff to observe all safety rules, procedures and processes in order to drive zero accident mentality.
• Act as a custodian of the site’s sustainability agenda.

TPM:

• Adhere to the TPM Methodology.
• Lead the site Safety Pillar.
• Support Operational Risk Reduction Teams.
• Participate in regional Safety Pillar as required.
• Participate in site Leadership and People Development Pillars.

3. Education 

• Safety or Environmental Management Diploma (NQF 6) or similar.

4. Experience

• 4-5 years’ experience in a managerial position (preferably in a food producing environment).
• Completed Courses in Health and Safety Training, and Risk Management.
• Computer Literate.
• High level of administration, planning and communication skills.
• Sound knowledge of OHS Act, NEMA and related health and safety regulations.
• Sound knowledge of ISO 45001 is a requirement.
