Purpose of the role:

Assist with all winemaking activities throughout the year. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Control execution of various winemaking tasks and responsibilities.
  • Assist with disciplinary actions.
  • Promote quality conscientiousness regarding all cellar activities.

Co-responsible for the following:

    • control of daily winemaking activities.
    • correct intake of grapes and pressing activities during harvesting season.
    • appliance of the best work standards from grape intake to pre-bottling, to ensure the production of the highest quality wines possible.
    • monthly stock take.
    • correct daily wine transfers.
    • monthly stock take.
    • correct daily wine transfers.
    • control of wine losses and waste.
    • wine blending activities.
    • various wine preparation activities.
    • supply wine to the bottling line in time and according with product specification.
    • all cellar and harvest admin.
    • cellar hygiene.
    • maintaining and application of safety procedures.
  • Control the optimum use of cellar equipment and facilities.
  • Control the working condition of all winemaking machinery.
  • Report all machinery failures and breakdowns.
  • Co-responsible for maintaining and application of safety procedures.
  • Promote safety conscientiousness.
  • Conduct Regular safety inspections in the cellar.
  • Report immediately any hazardous safety aspects to the winemakers.
  • Implement and come up with ne wsuggestions and actions to improve the safety of the cellar activities.
  • Attend wine tastings and various wine shows.
  • Perform required wine marketing activities.
  • Responsible for food safety performed as described in the food safety team member appointment letter (must still be appointed).
  • Actively be involved in Food Defense constantly being on the lookout for suspicious behavior.
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of annual audits and certifications, including IPW, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Support the administration of harvest temporary contracts and related documentation.
  • Participate and coordinate monthly sensory evaluations to monitor and maintain wine quality.
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets and contribute to monthly ICC (Internal Compliance Checks).
  • Assist with SAWIS reporting and compliance, ensuring all data is accurately captured and submitted according to regulatory timelines.
  • Follow Organization’s policies and procedures and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

 

Education & Experience:

  • A relevant BSc Degree or Elsenburg Diploma.
  • Minimum 5 years of Cellar experience.
  • People management experience.
