Sierra Leone Brewery Limited is inviting applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of Shift Brewer.

Position Description

Responsible for the shift-to-shift operational/management of the brewing department’s shop floor activities.



  1. Safety, Food Safety & Sustainability.
  • Applies safety agenda in the shift whilst managing the entire process with the aim of reaching the planned quantities and production quality and improving the key performance indicators.
  • Monitors and supervises that all activities are done in line with the HEINEKEN Safety, Food safety and Sustainability standards, in the respective shift.
  • Monitors the hygienic standards and order in the shift, ensuring proper execution according to the approved standards and procedures.

2. Production

Executes departmental production plan to meet sales and distribution forecasts.

  • Organizes subordinates to achieve set targets.
  • Plans material availability to match production plan.
  • Plans effective preventive maintenance schedules to minimize breakdown during production.
  • Hands over good quality bright beer in bright beer tanks to packaging section for packaging.


3. Ensuring quality of the process and product

  • Collects all data from the process together with the Operators.
  • Ensures that all activities are done in line with quality standards through continuous monitoring and supervision.
  • Develops, maintains and sustains good housekeeping.

4. TPM & Continuous Improvement

  • Participates, monitors and supports the TPM way of working.
  • Leads and supports the implementation of improvement activities.

5. Process Management

  • Actively contributes in AM Brewing agenda.
  • Controls execution of all Brewing operational processes.
  • Uses approved and predefined escalation lines in terms of anomalies and deviations from standards.

6.    Management Responsibility.

  • Ensure that departmental organization has the continuous availability of sufficient motivated and well trained personnel.
  • Recommends and follows up a career development plan for subordinates.
  • Evaluates and controls man-power requirements.
  • Assess the performance and potential of employees within the brewing section.              
  • Optimizes the organizational structure and resources.
  • Disciplines and motivates as appropriate.
  • Ensures the training needs of employees are agreed with superior.

7.    Process Documentation 

           Documents departmental activities to guide management action.

  • Compiles daily, weekly, and periodic technical and BCS reports.
  • Analyzes and discusses reports with superiors at relevant meetings.
  • Participates in departmental budget preparation.



  • B.Sc. in Pure Sciences with a Minimum of Second Class Lower Division.
  • 1 - 3 years beverage technological experience and managing of people.
  • Good reporting and data handling skills.
  • Ability to work structured and disciplined: set clear (working) priorities in workload and able to keep agreements and work under pressure / stress thereby ensuring that the planned workflow does not suffer from multiple breakdown interferences.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication at all levels
  • Experience in leading change
  • Ability to work independently
