Engineering Manager
Location: Ōtāhuhu, Auckland
Type of Contract: Full-time Permanent
As DB's Engineering Manager, you will lead the Maintenance & Engineering team at Waitemata Brewery, driving reliability, safety, and sustainability across all operations. You’ll shape and execute short- and long-term maintenance strategies, champion continuous improvement through HEINEKEN’s World Class Manufacturing program, and manage projects up to $1 million. Acting as the brewery’s engineering expert, you’ll ensure compliance with New Zealand legislation, optimise asset performance, and embed a culture of teamwork and growth. Your role is pivotal in transforming the brewery into a world-class manufacturing site—delivering high-quality products, reducing environmental impact, and building capability for the future.
Key Accountabilities:
As a key member of the Brewery leadership team, you’ll play a critical role in driving operational excellence and reliability. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leadership & Collaboration: Provide engineering expertise and share accountability for overall site performance.
- Strategic Maintenance Planning: Develop and execute short-term and long-term maintenance strategies to ensure sustainable, reliable operations.
- Team Development: Lead and engage the Engineering & Maintenance team, fostering a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and adherence to Heineken People practices.
- Safety & Compliance: Champion safety, food safety, sustainability initiatives, and ensure compliance with New Zealand legislation for critical operations.
- Operational Excellence: Manage maintenance planning, spare parts, supplier relationships, and the repairs and maintenance budget.
- Continuous Improvement & Projects: Drive World Class Manufacturing initiatives and lead CAPEX projects, including brewery projects up to $1 million.
- Systems & Data Management: Oversee communication, data systems, and preventative maintenance through a computerised maintenance management system.
What you will bring with you:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Experience:
- 10+ years in technical/operational leadership with proven ability to lead and motivate teams.
- 3–5 years in maintenance or operations, ideally within FMCG.
- Minimum 3 years in maintenance planning/scheduling and/or spare parts management.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong project management and familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).
- Expertise in continuous improvement methodologies (TPM, Lean, Six Sigma).
- Solid understanding of maintenance, engineering, supply chain, and inventory processes.
- Ability to set priorities, manage suppliers, and optimise workflows across Operations, Procurement, and Maintenance.
