Wastewater Technician

The Gist

The Wastewater Technician will operate, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot the wastewater system and other equipment as needed. This specialized maintenance role utilizes knowledge and skills in multiple trades, such as mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and laboratory work to perform wastewater management duties. Assists with other cross-functional sustainability initiatives as needed. 

  • Schedule: Sunday - Wednesday (4days x 10hrs) starting around 7a (Flexible) 
  • Pay: Starting at $37/hr

What You’ll Do

  • Following standard operating procedures, treats incoming waste streams from brewing and production processes. 
  • Maintain and observe wastewater treatment systems. 
  • Perform routine data analysis on wastewater and reuse water samples. 
  • Record and catalogue appropriate process indicators such as flow rate, pH, COD, VFA, TSS, etc.
  • Maintains records of treatment, storage, etc. of all waste for cartage. 
  • Monitors wastewater for compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies. 
  • Collect data for environmental reporting. 
  • Maintain and operate aerobic, anaerobic, collections and reuse wastewater treatment systems.
  • Collect wastewater samples for daily/weekly testing.
  • Make necessary adjustments/decisions as indicated by current conditions. 
  • Handles the various chemicals used for cleaning/operation of WWTP.
  • Load by-products onto trucks. 
  • Complete, submit, and maintain environmental reports for EPA, NBC, DEM, DOT, OSHA etc. 
  • Develop new techniques and processes to reduce waste costs. 
  • Monitor plant for proper compliance, (labeling, chemical storage, safety, 5S, etc.). 
  • Completes preventive maintenance routines as assigned and participates in continuous improvement initiatives. 
  • Work on assigned projects and work orders. 
  • Adhere to all safety standards set by Lagunitas and OSHA. Actively participate in safety meetings and audits.
  • Assist/collaborate with other departments as need.

What We’re Lookin’ For

  • 2-4 years of industrial maintenance experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge/ education in wastewater treatment with hands on experience is desired.
  • Ability to read schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals. 
  • Ability to use precision measuring equipment and special tools. 
  • Ability to maintain and develop relationships with outside vendors. 
  • Must be highly goal oriented and perform work in a manner consistent with plant safety and product quality within a team. 
  • Results driven, proactive, able to work effectively both individually and leading a team. 
  • Ability to predict/respond to the frequent changes in production to make the appropriate preparations/adjustments to the WWTP.
  • Must have strong analytical competency and excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate issues, opportunities, and risk. 
  • Willing to work weekends and off-shifts, acceptance of varying and flexible schedules. 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, self-management, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Experience monitoring and maintaining inventory control software such as SAP and Maintenance Connection is preferred.

Key Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Utilities Manager. 
  • Will interact with all areas of operations including; maintenance, brewing, quality

Physical Stuff

  • Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator. 
  • Work at heights and in inclement weather; Must be able to lift and carry 60 pounds on a regular basis. 
  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for majority of work schedule. 
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts, overtime as necessary, & holidays and weekends. 

EXTRA DESIRABLES

  • Proof of trade school completion in any these fields.
  • Certifications from CWEA in fields such as (maintenance, instrumentation, lab etc.)
  • T1/T2 certification from the State Water Resources Control Board
  • D1/D2 certification from the State Water Resources Control Board
