The Gist

The Taproom Front of the House Manager (FHM) manages the daily operations of the Taproom including sales, cost control, staff development and regulatory compliance. The FHM is responsible and accountable for all restaurant activities relating to guests and revenues, and has complete ownership for ensuring the Taproom operates at an optimal balance of efficiency and service to achieve business plan objectives while creating a memorable, positive experience for all guests. 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Consistently acts as a leader: sets a welcoming, appropriate and professional tone for staff communication and dynamics; is informed and up-to-date on the Taproom and company offerings, products, and services; knows and represents company history and culture.
  • Ensures the overall appearance of Taproom displays and environment are kept at the highest level, including signage, cleanliness & décor.
  • Coordinates and participates in promotion of the Taproom in the local community.
  • Oversees and promotes the execution of all Taproom paid events and rental space program.
  • Reviews and monitors daily sales and margins; Meets and exceeds sales and margin goals; Works with store and kitchen teams to maximize sales.
  • Communicates monthly results, trends, issues and action plans to Director of Retail Operations.
  • Continually communicates with staff on key results, trends, plans via memos, postings, and conversations and regular staff meetings.
  • Participates in annual budgeting process including sales planning; Monitors and controls expenses to meet and exceed annual operating budgets.
  • Approves expense reimbursements and petty cash expenditures.
  • Reviews and analyzes labor reports: ensures that all staff members are assigned to the correct departments and status; monitors labor in order to meet budgeted labor goals.
  • Maintains current knowledge and understanding of all company procedures and policies; exemplifies, upholds and enforces all policies and procedures.
  • Operates and understands core functions of POS system & assists in training users.
  • Organizes and coordinates monthly and year-end inventory; participates in all inventories, inventory follow-up, and resolution of inventory variances.
  • Schedules, monitors and supervises preventive maintenance of Taproom equipment; Maintains up-to-date equipment files and maintenance records.
  • Oversees Taproom recruiting efforts by coordinating and participating in candidate interviewing, hiring, new hire orientations and departmental trainings.
  • Leads training & development of staff to promote knowledge, efficiency and growth; coordinates with team to schedule periodic trainings as needed; evaluates, adjusts and improves training systems.
  • Sets performance goals for Taproom staff; Evaluates employee performance and growth and provides regular feedback.
  • Ensures weekly staff schedule is completed, reviewed and posted each week as needed.
  • Maintains system for tracking schedule requests; plans annual vacation and holiday schedules. Ensures that shifts and responsibilities for supervisors and other staff are covered during vacations and emergencies.
  • Ensures proper completion of all hiring, employment, termination forms/paperwork and maintenance of proper personnel files and recordkeeping.
  • Understands and ensures adherence to workers’ compensation, benefits, anti-harassment, anti-discrimination and other legal standards and Lagunitas policies and procedures.
  • Assures all staff are continually informed and in compliance with all health and sanitation laws and principles.
  • Assures all staff members are properly trained and following basic safety practices and emergency procedures.
  • Actively promotes ideas for operational improvement; responds promptly to management inquiries, assignments and deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned by Manager.

 

What We’re Lookin’ For

  • Requires a high school diploma, preferably a bachelor’s degree, and a minimum of 8 years of management experience in the hospitality industry, preferably in a high volume pub or restaurant hosting live music.
  • Food Manager Certificate strongly preferred.
  • Strong organization and communication skills to discern and address the needs of customers, employees, stakeholders, and company leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong relationships within the organization and community-at-large
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity motivating and unifying teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a dynamic environment.
  • A constant learner, able to flourish in a fast-paced, high-growth, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Passion for Lagunitas and the craft beer business; Strong knowledge of craft beer is desired.
  • Expertise in driving efficiency in business despite practical constraints.
  • Able to work effectively with people at all levels across the organization.
  • Goal-oriented with ability to demonstrate impeccable integrity and honesty.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Able to work flexible hours, holidays and weekends as needed to manage and operate the Taproom effectively.

 

Key Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Director of Retail Operations.
  • Frequent interaction with facility employees and manager, including Finance & Marketing.

Physical Stuff

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds with a team lift.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, lift, and bend for long periods of time.
  • Environment may involve noise and temperature changes.
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator.
