The Gist
The Director of Retail Operations provides leadership to Lagunitas’s US-based Schwag Store and Taproom teams as extensions of our brand connection with consumers. We view these experiences as special, unique, and a critical part of how consumers will view the brand. We wish for guests to leave with stories of their own to share with others; that comes from having a beer, participating in a non-profit event, attending an amphitheater concert, or simply celebrating and enjoying our vibe with friends and family.
What You’ll Do
Guest Experience
- Oversees Lagunitas’ Schwag Stores, Taprooms and guest experiences (amphitheater concerts, taproom music, special events, etc.) in Petaluma and Chicago.
- Leads all training, communication and project management for all Schwag Store and Taproom initiatives.
- Practices continuous improvement to identify opportunities for increased efficiencies and customer satisfaction.
- Identifies ways to leverage the Innovation Lab in Petaluma, to enhance the direct-to-consumer experience.
- Leads the experiential tours, including the Dip out of Petaluma and the brewery tours out of Chicago.
- Drives growth (primarily in Petaluma), with a creative focus on the restaurant, bar, events, catering, and the loft.
Team Leadership
- Cultivates employee engagement and retention through frequent communication and feedback with managers.
- Provides leadership and direction to corresponding teams to ensure the successful operation of the combined organization. Helps to enforce labor laws and educate team members in all retail spaces.
- Leads the Schwag store out of Petaluma, including DTC execution on merchandise, non-alc portfolio and testing other Lagunitas innovation products in California.
- Works with Operations, Facilities, and contractors to address the operating needs for physical buildings, infrastructure, and marketing image through cross-functional coordination.
- Partners with Marketing, Innovation team, Sales to create a best-in-class Lagunitas experience.
Financial Oversight
- Manages with a focus on efficient operations, customer satisfaction, and operating profits (P&L management).
- Oversees fiscal and organizational processes: owns customer satisfaction and business metrics for Schwag Store and Taproom operations in Petaluma and Chicago.
- Serves as liaison between the organization’s leadership team, the Store and Taproom functions by initiating and executing strategic direction.
- Meets and exceeds $10 million annual revenue goal, in addition to other business goals.
- Identifies ways to expand the retail potential in Petaluma, Chicago and beyond.
- Other duties as assigned.
What We’re Lookin’ For
Experience
- At least 5 years of experience managing restaurants and retail stores.
- Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience in related or translatable fields.
- Familiarity with a diverse variety of the fields’ concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrated leadership capacity motivating and unifying teams.
- Expertise in driving efficiency in business despite practical constraints.
- Extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
- To be successful, the Director of Retail Operations will focus on: strategy, structure and people.

Key Relationships
- Reports to the CEO.
- Partners with Marketing, Innovation and Sales teams.
- Direct reports include: General Managers, Senior Guest Experience manager, Schwag Store Manager & Event Coordinator.
Physical Stuff
- Typical schedule: Wednesday-Sunday, on-site in Petaluma
- Travel to Chicago up to 20% of the time
