Cerveceria La Tropical - Filtration Packaging Operator

A Filtration / Packaging Operator at Cerveceria La Tropical is responsible for the key activities that bring wort to finished mature beer ready for transfer. While in filtration, Operator is responsible for monitoring all aspects of beer centrifugation and filtration and ensures the product is ready for Packaging.   Efficiently and safely operates all packaging line machinery while maintaining “LaTropical has a seat at the Bar for Everyone” high level of quality assurance for the craft beer cases produced. Must be willing and able to troubleshoot machinery as needed. Consistently portrays the La Tropical brand through hard work and a strong sense of urgency in a team-oriented environment.

 

We’re looking for an experienced Filtration Packaging Operator that will report to our Head Brewer/Brewery OPS Mgr and Technical Brewer, and work together with our Leadership Team to Deliver business value and create conditions for growth in support of our business strategy - building on our company purpose and reputation and amplifying the story of LaTropical and engaging employees and stakeholders.

 

 

 

 

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rinse, vent and CIP 20, 60, 80, 120 hL stainless steel uni-tanks.

  • Responsible for operating GEA HB025 centrifuge
  • Prepares, fills and transfers beer to and from wooden barrels.
  • Ability to pull tank samples and accurately perform daily density and pH readings as well as perform cell counts.
  • Responsible for operating Masterinox sheet filter, and inline carbonation.
  • Responsible for final Carbonation in Brite Beer Tank
  • Responsible for flash pasteurization of product prior to packaging.
  • Accurate and legible execution of paperwork and ability to perform limited functions on desktop PC including work in Microsoft Office applications (Word & Excel) and in-house platform.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings, audits, and good catch program.
  • Manufactures and assembles packaging components, which includes assembly of mother cartons and beer shells, cans, bottles and kegs of beer.
  • Participates in TPM efforts including 5S, DCS, Morning on the shop floor, problem solving Kaizens, and Autonomous
  • Transports materials to and from designated areas using hand lifts, forklifts, and other equipment.
  • Moves goods packed on pallets or crates around the facility.
  • Operates multiple parts of the packaging line(s).
  • Runs all aspects of kegging, and canning line.
  • Makes equipment and product changeovers, using tools as needed.
  • Clean and fill of various types of kegs.
  • Monitors and reacts to QA specifications: quality control of various packaging processes; watch and monitor fill levels in various packaging types; monitor aesthetics of outer packaging and labels; monitor carbonation levels in finished beer.
  • Responsible for the sanitation of their assigned area including Clean In Place CIP tasks both manual and automated
  • Keeps track of stock levels of packaging materials.
  • Must observe and practice all Safety Procedures, including wearing the proper PPE at all times on the Packaging Lines & Production Floor.
  • Assists in or leads training of newly hired team members as needed.
  •  Other duties and tasks as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willing to work weekends and evenings as needed; acceptance of varying and flexible schedules
  • Safety conscious and quality minded.
  • Ability to follow all company SOP’s and work with little or no supervision.
  • Strong working knowledge of CIP cleaning and sanitizing principles, methods and the 4 x 4 rule (time/temperature/impingement/chemical strength).
  • Must understand clean-out-of-place (COP) principles and grasp environmental hygiene hazards.
  • Must have good attitude and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced, high-pressure stressful environment.
  • Possess superior time management and multitasking skills as well as a moderate to strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Passion for the craft beer business (strong curiosity of the industry encouraged).
  • Strong level of knowledge of craft beer and the brewing process.
  • Ability to lift 44 lbs. repeatedly and move 165 lbs.
  • Organizational skills and forklift/pallet jack proficiency required.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, climb and work in tight spaces.
  • Ability to manipulate tri-clamps, pull and figure eight stack hoses up to 3” diameter and 100 feet long.
  • Willingness and ability to work in hot and/or damp spaces for limited amounts of time.
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (up to 10 hours).
  • Willingness to work outside, in sunny, rainy, windy and cold conditions.
  • Proficient in speaking, reading and writing English.
  • Ability to maintain focus and not become distracted by crowds or special events.
  • Punctual & reliable

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift 55 lbs. repeatedly
  • Must be able to pass a respirator fit test
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crawl, climb and work in tight space
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time (up to 12 hours)
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Forklift/pallet jack proficiency required
