The Gist
The Assistant Taproom Manager is responsible for participating in the management of daily operations of the Taproom including: direct staff supervision, problem-solving, customer service, food quality control, facilities management, administrative tasks, security, sanitation and safety. The Assistant Taproom Manager is the main point person in the Taproom when the General Manager is not on-site.
What You’ll Do
- Lead-by-example through regular involvement in work activities of all Taproom areas, including opening and closing activities and cashiering.
- Maintain current knowledge on taproom offerings, products, and services information in order to correctly answer customer questions
- Communicate procedures and policies to staff.
- Cover shifts for Taproom during vacations and emergencies, as needed.
- Acknowledge and investigate complaints; provide findings and recommended actions to General Manager.
- Support Taproom recruiting efforts by coordinating and participating in applicant interviews, hiring, staff introduction/orientation and departmental training.
- Participate in training and developing staff members; coordinate with GM to schedule periodic training as needed; help evaluate, adjust and improve training systems.
- Assist General Manager in evaluating employee performance and growth. Work closely with GM to set performance goals; complete all required performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Coordinate with HR to complete and maintain new hire, status change and termination forms & paperwork.
- Monitor time sheets daily.
- Maintain all personnel (posters and wage and salary info) posting materials.
- Maintain the telephone/voicemail system and office equipment.
- Review and monitor daily sales and margins; provide recommendations to GM on strategies to achieve Taproom sales and margin goals.
- Provide weekly staff schedule to General Manager by Sunday at noon two weeks in advance; maintain system for tracking schedule requests and work closely with General Manager to plan annual vacation and holiday schedules.
- Review and analyze labor reports; work closely with GM on strategies to meet budgeted labor goals.
- Assist with catering and special event activities as directed by General Manager.
- Review weekly customer service issues/challenges with the Taproom staff.
- Directly interact with customers to resolve issues/complaints.
- Work with General Manager in supervising and maintaining cash control.
- Oversee server and bartender bank close-outs daily. Notify store managers and accounting of significant discrepancies.
- Ensure that the overall appearance of the Taproom-- inside and out, display and environment-- are kept at the highest level.
- Assist General Manager in directing and overseeing cleaning and other maintenance operations for the Taproom and store.
- Facilitate complete and ongoing staff understanding, appreciation and compliance with all health and sanitation laws and principals.
- Coordinate retailer, distributor and VIP visits and tours ensuring portrayal of the Lagunitas brand, culture and vibe.
- Support in the training and coaching of On-Site Events team in providing each guest with an authentic Lagunitas experience.
- Assist as needed with special initiatives or projects as required.
What We’re Lookin’ For
- At least 21 years of age.
- Minimum of 5 years of management experience in high volume pub or restaurant.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment.
- Must be able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Must be able to demonstrate mature judgment in handling all matters.
- Excellent organization and problem solving skills.
- Work well under pressure.
- Outgoing personality, positive attitude and strong verbal communication skills.
- Team work ethic; honesty & integrity.
- Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.
- Possess basic math skills and ability to handle cash, give change and balance cash drawer at the end of shift.
- General knowledge of craft beer is desired.
- Food Handler Certificate and Beer Server Cicerone Training upon hire.
Key Relationships
- Reports directly to Taproom General Manager.
- Frequent interaction with Kitchen, Bar, and Taproom staff.
Physical Stuff
- Majority of the shift is spent standing, carrying, bending, stretching, stooping, pulling and pushing.
- Able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.
- Ability to use a computer keyboard and calculator.
