Senior Manager Logistics

Area of responsibility:  The Sr. Manager, Logistics is responsible for leading the Transportation and Distribution activities for HUSA, including the contracting, execution and performance of all freight, as well as the management of externally contracted warehousing.  The Sr. Manager, Logistics plays a critical role in the broader Supply Chain organization, responsible for planning and managing logistics capacity and capability, delivering consistently high customer service performance, sustainable cost savings and strengthening the effectiveness of our vendor relationships. This position will be responsible for the execution of relevant strategic initiatives to enable business execution. Heineken USA imports for over 40,000 containers annually. This role will work closely with our customs brokers, 3PL’s, Foreign Breweries and US Customs to ensure best practices and compliance to import regulations are met as Heineken USA faces a high level of exposure if customs brokers are not managed effectively.   Additionally, this role will be accountable for logistics vendors’ invoicing, payment, cost/trend tracking through Heineken USA systems.


Key Responsibilities:

Logistics and Vendor Management (40%):


  • Effectively manage and oversee third party vendor relationships to enable supply chain execution.
  • Manage relationships with third party logistics service providers ( transportation, warehouses providers etc)
  • Hands-on daily responsibility for customs brokers, ensure smooth/timely customs flow
  • Ensure safety and regulatory compliance at Demand Points
  • Define and deliver against key performance indicators (KPI’s) and key success factors within Logistics (e.g., on time performance, case fill rate, cost per case, customer satisfaction etc)
  • Work with other Operations functions to agree targets to enable performance improvement, balancing cost, service and inventory in order to deliver sustained business value and implement actions to ensure achievement of performance metrics
  • Performs routine audits on ISF/ILF and entry transactions to ensure compliance
  • Provides leadership, guidance and training to HUSA operations team
  • Develops and responsible for SOP’s regarding to Logistics processes and procedures
  • Maintains current knowledge of import compliance, including attending training
  • Responsible for compliance to programs such as C-TPAT, CBP programs, CEE, FSVP



Logistics Cost Management (40%):


  • Ensure the governance and control of logistics spend against agreed budget.
  • Provide input to the logistics cost budget and any other financial planning requirements
  • Deliver against agreed costs (overall and cost per case / HL)
  • Ensure effective control and reporting of all logistics spend
  • Identify and mitigate risks which may impact cost performance
  • Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities (TCM)
  • Analyzes logistics costs providing insights, opportunities and solutions
  • Leads or supports operations projects for the logistics group utilizing TPM methodology
  • Assists in providing information for internal and external audits


Financial Controls (20%):


  • Assist Sr. Director Logistics with the financial budgeting / reporting and spending processes for all Logistics costs
  • Leads logistics in project to optimize vendor invoicing: timing, consistency, simplicity
  • Partners with finance to ensure proper inputs for financial close: accruals, reporting
  • Creates and manages vendor purchase orders (PO’s) and deferred tax reporting
  • Maintains list of logistics hot spots with vendors to ensure full visibility and actions taken
  • Manages logistics claims, creates, sends, holds vendors accountable for timely processing
  • Manages Reverse Logistics process including keg credit process and Supplier performance

Background / Experiences:            

  • Educated to Degree Level (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Finance or other relevant subject)
  • 5+ years’ experience in Logistics within Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
  • Experience in the alcoholic beverage industry or CPG is a plus
  • Detail oriented with strong organization and follow-up skills
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset (TPM experience a plus)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, works well in teams
  • Analytical capability, financial budget planning, analysis and reporting skills
  • Ability to collaborate and work as a Team in a matrix organization
