About the Role:

Heineken USA Operations aims at strategically supporting business growth and delivering value through the operational execution of supply chain activities. Operations are responsible for all supply chain activity including demand forecasting, supply planning, inventory management, customer services and logistics. 

 

This position leads the Transportation and Distribution activities for HUSA, including the contracting, execution and performance of all freight, as well as the management of externally contracted warehousing. The Director, Logistics is responsible for: KPI management, Safety and sustainability, long-term planning of warehouses, TPM and continuous improvement, management reporting, and manage relationships with and operational performance of the warehouses and transportation. The Director of Logistics is also responsible for evaluating and reviewing the organization’s logistics business practices, updating and developing process documentation, streamlining opportunities, and eliminating the non-value added services.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1. Safety, Quality and Sustainability

Drive safety and sustainability at all LSP locations

  • Put in place metrics and KPIs to hold all LSP’s accountable to Heineken rules safety standards, including reporting and targets with follow up and improvement areas defined
  • Increase overall safety culture with all LSP’s to drive Safety First mindset
  • Ensure storage conditions are in line with HEINEKEN standards and define quality assurance indicators and targets
  • Regularly assess how goods movement is executed on the shop floor adhering to Heineken rules and local procedures
  • Preserve the quality of the goods received into the warehouse and prevent quality defective products being moved downstream in the supply chain operations, and ultimately interpret and explain the figures to relevant stakeholders

 

2. Logistics Performance and Relationship Management

Manage and monitor the execution of warehousing activities outsourced to warehouse service providers to guarantee the required level of service and cost.

  • Contribute to the selecting, contracting and implementation process of third party vendors to provide services to the business (including transportation, importation services, customs brokerage, warehousing, returns management services etc) ensuring best-in-class business partners and best value for the business
  • Monitor LSP service providers performance as per contract terms and service agreement (e.g. on standard compliance, service, cost, inventory, SHE)
  • Foresee impact of changes in volumes or customer order behavior on the contracted capacity and activities (e.g. mixed pallets)
  • Ensure the compliance of any relevant standards or legislation (including Heineken standard operating procedures)
  • Support the definition and implementation of the vendor management strategy in line with business requirements
  • Ensure safety and quality is ‘at the heart of what we do’ in relation to logistics management and vendor partners

 

3. Collaboration across Vendors

Ensure that the warehousing operations collaborate with our ocean, customs, and transportation vendors to assure excellence in customer service to our distributors at the required end-2-end supply chain efficiency

 

4. Continuous Improvement and Warehousing & Transportation Pillar

Ensure an aligned approach to continuous improvement and delivery of on-going business value.

  • Implement a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) approach to identifying and eliminating loss and waste within supply chain
  • Utilize relevant and appropriate business tools to drive improvements
  • Identify opportunities to drive continuous improvement in Total Cost Management, Service, Optimization and Process Improvement Projects working collaboratively with business stakeholders

 

 

4. Logistics Strategic Planning

Provide an input to strategic planning enabling identification of opportunities to improve performance and drive efficiency.

  • Participate in ‘near term’ and ‘long term’ strategic as required planning to understand Logistics requirements
  • Drive and facilitate the organization’s strategy for cultivating a fully engaged logistics workforce
  • Collaborate with other business functions to anticipate future requirements and opportunities
  • Maintaining and caring for the warehousing and logistics hub

 

5. Logistics Cost Management

Strong business acumen for effectively managing the costs and revenues. Anticipating market and client opportunities and responding appropriately provide input to the logistics cost budget and any other financial planning requirements.

  • Ensure the governance and control of logistics spend against agreed budget.
  • Deliver against agreed costs (overall and cost per case / HL)
  • Ensure effective control and reporting of Warehousing spend
  • Identify and mitigate risks which may impact cost performance
  • Identify and implement cost optimization opportunities (TCM)
  • Produce timely and accurate data for preparing reports on warehousing

 

Basic Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Educated to Degree Level (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business, Finance or other relevant subject)
  • 10+ year’s experience in Logistics within Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG)
  • Experience of leading and motivating cross-functional Teams
  • Self –managing and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Negotiation skills i.e. the ability for protecting the interests of the organization via negotiations
  • Ability to identify problems quickly and generate sound solutions

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Logistics Operations (including Warehousing)
  • Knowledge of CPG (Alcoholic Beverages preferred)
  • Knowledge of SAP, Excel and any other relevant Supply Chain / Logistics Tools
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple project management
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and manage various projects
