Tax Manager

    Job Description 

        1. Tax Compliance

  • Full ownership of all Company tax compliance responsibilities including gathering/storing of accurate tax data records, co-ordination of internal/external stakeholders, development of local transfer pricing documentation etc.   Ensure that all Company tax filings are fully in line with current (local) tax legislation and HEINEKEN tax strategy. 
  • Key Company contact for all internal/external tax audits – lead/co-ordinate the audit process
  • Timely and accurate filing of relevant tax declarations and payment of taxes as required by (local) legislation.
  • Proper professional management of tax audit process

      2. Tax Reporting & Communication

  • Full (functional) ownership of the tax figures/disclosures included within the internal and external (consolidated) reporting (including Company Annual and Strategic Plans, Company sustainability reporting), provide proper analysis of the data underlying the tax figures and necessary explanations to Global Tax.           
  • Timely and accurate financial and business (tax) reporting. 
  • Compliance with local and international reporting standards. 
  • Providing a “true and fair” view of the Company tax position. 

      3.  Tax Risk Management

  • Identify and manage tax risks – act upon signaled deficiencies or potential improvements. Develop, localise, implement and maintain tax (and related) best practice policies ensuring compliance with the HEINEKEN Global Tax Strategy, the HEINEKEN Company Rules, the HEINEKEN Code of Conduct and the HEINEKEN Tax Control Framework.              
  • Compliance with the HEINEKEN Tax Control Framework. 
  • Achieve optimal balance between risk and return.  Company tax processes are compliant with HEINEKEN rules.
  •  Mitigation of tax exposures.  Value protection.  Ensures continuous process improvement

      4.  Tax Legislation & Regulations 

  • Timely identification of relevant developments within the local tax legislation/regulation.
  • Proper translation for the business of the impact of changes, highlighting actions required (e.g. updating procedures and/or systems) or opportunities arising.           
  • Ensures Company is fully complaint with all relevant tax legislation, all risks/opportunities are properly understood and appropriate action taken by Company

      5. Tax Planning 

  • Identification and implementation of appropriate local tax planning opportunities, taking a long-term view compliant with all HEINEKEN rules
  • Sustainable optimization of the Company total tax contribution/net income position

      6. Relationship with Tax Authorities

  • Build and develop a relationship with the local tax authorities in line with the HEINEKEN Global Tax strategy – based on respect, transparency & trust
  • Leads and/or participates in and/or supports negotiations with local tax authorities and prepares (proposals for) agreements (e.g. tax rulings).       
  • Optimal, if possible “enhanced”, relationship developed with tax authorities. 
  • Ensures full compliance with local tax legislation

       7.  Business Partnering: Decision Support & Tax Lobbying

  • In relation to business opportunities/Company projects: challenge, steer, advise, provide analysis and insights, either at request or under own initiative, for relevant stakeholders including Company Management team and Global Tax.
  •  Contribute to the Company decision making process - provide actionable insights and information, giving proper interpretation and guidance. 
  • Support Company business development projects e.g. acquisitions, divestments and reorganizations.
  • Provides support/steering and appropriate technical expertise to Company Corporate Relations in order to protect HEINEKENs interests and optimize the Company national lobbying activities
  • Active participation in national associations e.g. brewers association.       
  • High quality, value enhancing tax optimal decision making - contribution to execution of the Company strategy and objectives.
  • Optimization of the Companys tax contribution/net income position – tax efficient agreements which meet the business objectives
  • Provision of relevant and timely tax information to be used to in order to influence the local tax legislative process

       8. Information Technology

  • Functional owner of tax IT systems and/or applications partly or fully relating to taxation within the Company. 
  • Support IT technology projects led by Global Tax             
  • Fully up-to-date and reliable tax master data and tax functional elements of the Company ERP system

       9. People & Capabilities

  • Manage the employee lifecycle including involvement in recruitment, performance management and career development. 
  • Coach colleagues both within and outside the Company tax function, delivering tax training for relevant personnel as and when required.
  • Drive own personnel development in management, finance competencies and business knowledge by implementing a personnel development plan      Maximise potential and performance of people – demonstrable contribution to the professional development of employees
  • Raised awareness of tax throughout the Company.  Greater understanding as to how tax can impact the business
  • Continual professional development of the Company tax function.

     10.  Annual Plan & Budget

  • Prepare annual plan/budget for the Company tax function, as approved by Company Finance Director and aligned to the HEINEKEN Global Tax strategy   
  • Short and long term ambitions, targets and delivery agenda are established.  Coherent, effective and efficient management of the activities of the Company tax function, department.  


Job Requirement 

Level of education: University/Masters degree preferred. 

Field of education: Business Administration, Tax Management

Years of experience (including Mgt Experience) :

  • Specialist in tax law e.g. degree in tax law or accounting with specialist tax law knowledge. 
  • Ability to operate independently
  • Ability to translate tax knowledge into rounded opinions and tangible recommendations
  • Both advisory and compliance background preferred
  • >6 years experience in a tax consultancy role/(international) in-house tax management role

Specific knowledge/skills

  • Sound knowledge of taxation and operational accounting duties,
  • Proficient in Microsoft office application,
  • Experience in tax law implementation,
  • Experience in auditing,
  • FMCG financial experience,
  • High level of analytical ability.
