Packaging Technician

We have an immediate requirement for two Packaging Technicians, to join our Packaging Team in Lae, reporting to the Packaging Supervisor.

 

Main duties include:

  • To achieve job targets with maximum efficiency, low wastage/losses, and the highest quality.
  • Ensure that products are packed in the correct containers (bottles/cans) and labelled appropriately.
  • Ensures replenishments of the needed materials of the machine and defines material requirements for the shift.
  • Operate and clean the machine correctly according to standard operating procedures (SOPs), including start-up and run-out procedures.
  • Constant and regular checks on equipment to make sure all functions are within specification and rectify any deviations as soon as possible. Provide feedback and escalate to the supervisor in case of deviations.
  • Perform small repairs independently (detagging) and assist the maintenance team in large breakdown repairs during shifts.
  • Can independently change over the machine and complete CILT tasks.
  • Technical support during overhauls and PM days.
  • Performs reliable downtime registration and shift handing over notes (as input for the DCS), can write tags.
  • To fill in all operational forms in the correct manner.
  • Contributes to Breakdown Analysis and can independently make MTBA analysis.
  • Participate in Kaizen and 5s teams, execution of standards.
  • Conduct checks on raw material/packaging material quality and inform the supervisor if this affects packing quality.
  • Quality analysis; Co2 analysis, foreign gas, seamer checks, caustic bottlewasher, EBI test bottles, red post, conveyor lubrication check, PQI.
  • Provide timely feedback and escalation on product quality and non-standard conditions.
  • Comply with all workplace safety regulations for own and others' safety as well.
  • Drive, initiative, discipline, and teamwork.

 

Qualification and Experience:

 

  • Grade 12 with a national certificate, PETT, or NATTB certificate.
  • Experience in operating and maintaining similar types of equipment.
  • Diploma in technical field preferable (Mechanical/Electrical).
